Dieulefit - Bourdeaux
DIEULEFIT : THE VILLAGE
Located among the mid-level mountains, near the Jabron river, this market town, which lays near clay quarries, has a strong tradition of pottery that dates back to the Gallo-Roman period. The height of their pottery was during the 19th century. The 20th century was a transition period from what was at first mostly a utilitarian production in small workshops, towards creative works by artists. Nowadays, approximately 40 workshops exist in the Dieulefit region and carry on its tradition of pottery.
THE CHURCH OF COMPS
Classified Romanic church, mentioned for the first time in the year 1032. By 1600, the catholic priest and the protestant minister both come to worship in the church. In the small hamlet of the Lombards, under the church, we can notice far off, the protestant church of the XIXth century, which today is private property.
THE TWO CASTELS OF POËT CELARD
The castle of the perched village is abandoned in the XVIth century by the family Blain, which moves in the Castle Saint André, better placed and more comfortable (Private property. Thank you for remaining remote). A firm oral tradition says that, Calvin himself was received there in September, 1561. A bust of the reformer and a crystal cup, in which Calvin would have celebrated the Holy Communion, would confirm this passage.
Just before arriving at the castle Saint-André, the path passes in a big beech grove, the “Bois de Vache” former place of worship in the Desert. This place welcomes the annual gathering of the Protestants of the region, each 2th Sunday of August.

Le Poët-Célard
The first temple was demolished in 1684, so by the end of the 18th century the Protestants, who were in the majority in the commune, were calling for a new place of worship. Inaugurated in 1847, it was decommissioned in 1975 and sold the following year.
Mornans
After the Edict of Toleration signed by Louis XVI, the lack of a building to worship an almost entirely Protestant population was sorely felt. The present temple was completed in 1856 and sold in 1976.

Le Poët-Célard
In rural areas, where new converts are still in the majority, and where there is little supervision at the time of death, families tend to bury their dead on their own land, in the middle of the fields.
Bourdeaux Bourdeaux
History was not always kind to Bourdeaux... as witnessed by the two castles - both in ruins today - built in the 13 th century on the highest crest called "la Viale", the historical heart of th village.
Bourdeaux
This temple is a former Methodist chapel built in 1863 - 1864. Large, three-storey building almost opposite the present temple on the route de Dieulefit. Door and windows surmounted by a pointed arch.
Bourdeaux
The Notre Dame de Viale chapel overlooks the village. Its origins goes back to the Gothic period as witness the porch. Remains of frescoes can be seen on the vaults and the walls.
Bourdeaux
The Great Temple is the actual temple of Bourdeaux. It is the largest temple of the department. Completed in 1806, it is a former church started started during the 18th century and never finished which proves the difficulty for Catholics to win back the valley.
